Start with your day, then choose the tools that fit it.

Begin with the work, not the shopping list

Write down the three things you do most often at your desk. A day of documents and calls needs a different arrangement from a day of sketching, editing or gaming. Keep those activities visible while you compare products.

Give every connection a job

List the devices you already own, including their ports. Before choosing a monitor or dock, check the manufacturer’s compatibility information for your laptop, display, cable and power supply. A matching connector alone does not confirm every feature will work together.

Make room for the everyday things

Measure the desk and leave space for your keyboard, mouse, notebook and a drink. Think about where cables will run and whether a stand can fold away when your workspace becomes a dining table again.

Build in three small steps

  1. Choose the main device that suits the work you actually do.
  2. Add the screen, input devices and connections you need.
  3. Use the setup for a while before adding more accessories.

In our demonstration collection, the Slate 14 Laptop, Vista 27 Monitor and Studio Dock 8 illustrate how a workspace can be assembled. Their fictional specifications are examples for exploring the store.
